Dried oregano Recipes

There are more than 40 varieties of oregano. The fresh and dried leaves are used in cooking, for flavoring, and for medicinal benefits. A healthy oil is also extracted from this herb. The oregano plant is actually a member of the mint family.

Oregano should be stored in a clean and dry container and can be used for six months. It loses its benefits and flavors over time. Dried oregano is used as a culinary herb in Mediterranean and Italian dishes. Dried oregano is made by drying the fresh leaves of oregano. It gives a distinct aroma to the food. Fresh oregano is dark green in color while dried oregano is brown in color.

Always store dried oregano in an airtight container away from moisture.

  • Oregano pairs well with a number of vegetables and meats.
  • It is also a part of several soups and salads and is known to impart them a unique flavor. The best way of using oregano is by sprinkling it on soups and salads.

  • Oregano is an anti-bacterial agent and is very rich in vitamin K, iron, calcium, and manganese.
  • The Himalayan oregano is known to possess strong anti-bacterial properties as has been demonstrated by a research study.
  • It also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and might find its way into the treatment of osteoporosis.
  • The herb also has strong anti-cancer properties and can slow down breast cancer.
  • It is useful in the treatment of cough and sore throat.
  • It is also known to enhance immunity.
  • It is known to treat vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and morning sickness.
  • It is also known to help treat fever.
  • It contains a lot of vitamin C and provides resistance to the body.
