Mustard seeds Recipes

Mustard seeds are the round seeds of a number of mustard plants. These are quite small and are nearly 1.5 millimeters in diameter. Mustard seeds are typically yellowish white to black-colored and are considered to be an important spice. They are used extensively in the Indian and regional cuisines.

Mustard seeds are sourced from either the black mustard plant, the white or yellow mustard plant or the brown Indian mustard. Prepared mustard is made when mustard seeds are ground and mixed with liquids like vinegar or water. It is widely used as a condiment. Mustard seeds contain lots of minerals, vitamins, as well as essential oils.

Store mustard seeds in an airtight container and look out for the manufacturing and expiry dates when you buy.

  • They are used as flavoring agents.
  • Mustard seeds are known to complete the flavors of the dish they are added to.
  • They are added to curries, pickles, and seafood.

Health benefits

  • Mustard seeds are widely used as spices. They contain lots of phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants.
  • Mustard seeds have high-quality vitamins, essential oils, dietary fiber, and proteins.
  • They also pack in B-complex vitamins include riboflavin, thiamin, niacin, and folates. These vitamins play a vital role in helping synthesize enzymes and for regulating metabolism.
  • They also contain antioxidants such as lutein, zeaxanthin, and carotenes.
  • Mustard seeds also pack in vitamin antioxidants including vitamin K, A, and C.
  • They also contain lots of calcium, copper, manganese, selenium, iron, and zinc. Calcium present in mustard seeds helps maintain healthy teeth and bone health. Copper is essential for the production of RBCs (red blood cells).
  • Mustard seeds have also been used in the treatment of rheumatism, muscle pain, and arthritic pain.
  • It is also helps to promote hair growth.
  • Mustard seeds also promote intestinal secretion and stimulate gastric mucosa.
