    How to Make Reuben Sandwich

    1. Spread the Russian dressing on one side of the 2 rye bread.
    2. Spread a layer of sauerkraut on 1 rye bread.
    3. Place 1 big slice of Swiss cheese over the sauerkraut layer.
    4. Spread the corned beef layer or beef slices over the cheese.
    5. Place the second rye bread on the top of the corned beef.
    6. Apply melted butter on the two outside faces of the sandwich bread.
    7. Grill each side of the sandwich for at least 15 minutes or till it turns golden brown.
    8. Your classic American Reuben sandwich is ready within half an hour. Savor it hot and enjoy the rich aroma of melted cheese, sauerkraut, and butter.

    Did you know there are several stories associated with the making of famous Reuben sandwich! The invention of Reuben sandwich dates back around the 1910s or 1920s. It is believed that Arnold Reuben is the first creator of this amazing hot sandwich in 1914. Whereas, Arnold Reuben Jr. believed that the Reuben sandwich was made for the first time by one of the chefs in the restaurant in 1927 or 1928.

    Another story suggests that the Reuben sandwich was made by Reuben Kolakofsky, who was a wholesale grocer in Nebraska, in between 1920 and 1935. It is said that one of his poker playing friends, named Schimmel, put Reuben sandwich on his hotel’s menu. In the year 1956, one of the waitresses of Schimmel’s hotel entered Reuben sandwich in the National sandwich idea contest. It is in that contest Reuben sandwich won the first place and earned its instant fame.
