How to Make Italian Cream Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to around 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Grease three round cake pans measuring 9 inches.
  3. Dissolve the baking soda inside the buttermilk, in a small bowl, and set aside.
  4. Take a large bowl and mix together half the cup of butter, white sugar and shortening until it becomes fluffy.
  5. Mix in the eggs with the butter milk mixture and add 1 teaspoon vanilla, baking powder, 1 cup coconut and flour. Stir until the mixture is well combined.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared pans.
  7. Bake the pan inside the preheated oven for half an hour.
  8. To make your frosting; combine cream cheese, 1 teaspoon vanilla, half a cup of butter and confectioner’s sugar inside one bowl.
  9. Beat until the contents within the bowl are fluffy.
  10. Stir in cream, flaked coconut and chopped nuts to the mixture. Spread on top of the cake, between layers of the cake and on the sides of the cake.
