1 tbsp vegetable oil
3 large onions – sliced
1 large white onion
2 lbs ground beef
2 cloves garlic – chopped
1 cup water
2 cups ketchup
1 cup beef stock
2 tbsp teriyaki sauce
3 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp curry powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 cup water

How to make Dad's New Zealand Mince Stew

  • Heat oil in a large pot at a medium temperature.
  • Sauté the onions until they turn brown then remove them from the pot and set aside.
  • Add ground beef to the pot and cook until it is evenly browned.
  • Add garlic and cook for 2 mins.
  • Stir in browned onions and cook on high heat for 3-5 minutes.
  • Stir in 1 cup of water.
  • Reduce heat, cover, and let simmer for 20 mins.
  • Pourthe ketchup, beef stock, and teriyaki sauce.
  • Season with pepper, curry powder, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Cover, and cook for about 2 hrs.
  • Mix together 1 tbsp flour and 1/2 cup water, add to the stew.
  • Cook until it thickens.
  • Serve and enjoy!
