For the Black Current Cordial :
2 cups black currant
5-6 tbsp Sugar
3 tbsp lemon Juice
Water as needed
For the White Wine Ice Cubes :
1 glass white wine
For Lemon Slice Ice Cubes :
1 glass water
3 lemons
For Strawberry Ice Cubes :
6 strawberries
1 glass water
For the Black Currant Juice :
3 tbsp black currant crush
1/2 tsp black salt
1/2 tsp black pepper powder
salt to taste
1 tbsp lemon Juice
1 glass water
mint leaves – a handful

How to Make Black Currant Juice

For Black Currant Cordial

  1. Take a deep pot.
  2. Put all the black currants into it.
  3. Add 4 to 5 glasses of water into the pot and let the berries cook on low heat for at least 2 hours.
  4. While it cooks, keep squashing the berries with the back of the spoon to release juices.
  5. Cook for a few minutes.
  6. Then, use a strainer to remove all the seeds and pulp from the juice.
  7. Add the juice back into the pot.
  8. Add sugar and lemon juice into the pot.
  9. Let the sugar dissolve into the mixture on low heat for another hour or so.
  10. Once, the cordial gets a thick consistency, pour it out into jars and refrigerate for using in the black current juice.

For White Wine Ice Cubes

  1. Fill up an ice tray with a glass of white wine.
  2. Freeze it for at least a couple of hours.

For Lemon Slice Ice Cubes

  1. Pour a glass of water into an ice tray and leave only half of the ice cube compartments filled.
  2. Add slices of lemons into each of the compartments.
  3. Freeze for at least a couple of hours.

For Strawberry Ice Cubes

  1. Fill up an ice tray with a glass of water.
  2. Remove crowns of each of the strawberries.
  3. Slice each of the strawberries into half.
  4. Put each of the strawberry slices in each of the ice cube compartments.
  5. Freeze for at least a couple of hours.

For Black Current Juice

  1. Add black currant cordial, water, white wine ice cubes, black salt, salt, black pepper powder and lemon juice into a blender.
  2. Spin a couple of time until all ice is crushed into the juice.
  3. Take a glass, add mint leaves, strawberry ice cubes and lemon slice ice cubes into the glass.
  4. Pour the black currant juice into the glass.
  5. Serve chilled!

  • In the wild, black currant can survive for 15 to 30 years.
  • Black currants are grown in the UK and New Zealand.
  • Although, these berries grow in the winter season, their size reduces during the spring.
