Gujiya is a type of sweet dumpling that is deep fried. Apple gujiya in particular is especially delicious and amazing. It is the ultimate combination of the definitive American dessert, apple pie, and good old-fashioned Indian cooking techniques. It is not very difficult to prepare and cook an apple gujiya. The process is very similar to the samosa, so get cooking today, your taste buds will thank you.

How to make Apple Gujiya

  1. Peel apple and grate the apple in a medium sized bowl.
    1. Set aside till required.
  2. Chop up the cashews, almonds, and pistachios another bowl to begin preparing the filling.
    1. Make sure the pistachios and almonds are blanched.
  3. Prepare the crust
    1. Mix all-purpose flour, salt, and ghee together in a dough-kneading plate.
    2. Add cold water and knead the mixture into a stiff dough.
    3. Cover with a damp cloth and set aside.
  4. Heat a frying pan to a medium temperature.
    1. Add the khoya to the pan and roast it.
    2. Stir continuously until it turns pink.
    3. Remove the khoya from the flame, transfer it to a bowl and allow it to cool.
  5. Add the chopped pistachios, cashews, almonds, raisins, and green cardamom powder.
    1. Mix well.
  6. Place a saucepan over a medium flame and sauté the grated apple till it turns dry.
  7. Combine the powdered sugar and sautéed apple with the khoya mixture.
    1. Mix well.
  8. Grease your hands with a little ghee then divide the dough into small balls.
    1. Roll out the dough balls into small puris.
    2. Grease the gujiya mold using ghee and put the puri on the mold.
    3. Press lightly.
    4. Place a tbsp of the filling on one side of the mold.
  9. Apply a little water on the edges and close the mold by pressing it firmly together.
  10. Cut out the extra dough.
  11. Place the gujiyas on a plate and cover them with a damp cloth.
  12. Repeat the process till you have consumed all the dough and filling.
  13. Place a kadhai on a high flame and add ghee to it.
    1. Let it melt completely.
  14. When the ghee is hot enough place the gujiyas one by one and deep fry till they turn golden.
