How to Make Chicago Style Pizza

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees 
  2. Roll out and press the dough in a 9x13 inch baking dish, making sure all sides are covered.
  3. Meanwhile in alarge skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage meat in the olive oil for about 8 minutes or till it is browned.  Sprinkle ½ cup of mozzarella cheese over the meat and continue cooking for a minute until the cheese is melted.
  4. Add in the onions, mushrooms, oregano, tomatoes, salt and fennel seeds to the meat and sprinkle it with parmesan.
  5. Cook this mixture for a minute more until all flavors are fully incorporated.
  6. Pour the meat and cheese mixture in the baking dish covered with dough and bake for 35 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven when you see the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  8. Serve with garlic bread and enjoy!

Trivia

In the early 18th century, pizza was thought of as a peasant meal  by the Italians.

The first ever pizzeria was opened in 1830  in Italy.

The original Italian is very different from the American version and contains only a minimal amount of cheese.
