Ingredients

How to Make Suran Chutney

  1. Peel the elephant yam and cut into pieces.
  2. Steam till soft and grind to a paste.
  3. Mix in tamarind paste with about 4 tablespoons of water.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and when the oil starts giving out smoke, reduce the heat to low, and add yam paste. Stir to combine with the oil. Add sugar continue cooking over low flame till the oil floats to the top.
  5. Stir in the remaining ingredients and remove from the heat.
  6. Cool and store in glass jars.

Trivia

An elephant foot yam can weigh up to 30 lbs.
