Obesity Also Impacts the Transmission of Flu: Here’s What You Can Eat to Help with Weight Loss

Obesity increases a person’s risk of contracting influenza, more commonly known as the flu, and passing it on. Flu can be extremely harmful for your health; it can cause respiratory issues, fevers, runny nose, and in extreme cases, hospitalization and death. Studies have shown that obese adults suffering from an influenza infection shed the virus for a longer period of time than adults at a healthy weight. This longer shedding period increases the window of opportunity your body has to spread the virus. Obesity affects the body’s ability to handle influenza in other ways as well. It can change the body’s immune response system, lead to chronic inflammation, heightened respiratory issues, and increase the body’s need for oxygen. If you are obese or suffering from the symptoms caused by obesity, then it is probably best that you immediately focus on losing weight. You can do this by changing your diet and committing to an exercise regimen. Below are some foods you can add to your diet to help you lose weight:

  1. Whole Eggs
    Whole eggs are one of the best things you can eat in general. They are especially great for helping you to lose weight and manage obesity. They are high in protein, low in calories, and high in healthy fats. All of this adds up to make a fantastic weight loss regimen. The protein and fat give you energy which takes a long time to metabolize so you feel satiated for a longer period of time. Eggs are also extremely nutrient dense foods which when combined with the low-calorie nature of eggs, helps you to successfully commit to a low-calorie diet.
  1. Leafy Greens
    Vegetables are obviously one of the best things to lose weight. They’re the foundation of any proper food pyramid. But not all vegetables are made equally; some vegetables are starchier than others and can actually hinder your ability to lose weight. Leafy green vegetables, like spinach, kale, swiss chards, collards, and some others are the best veggies to eat for weight loss. They are extremely low calorie, so you can eat a lot to fill full while minimizing your caloric intake. They are also very nutrient dense and can help with fat burning thanks to their abundance of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

    Beans are full of protein and dietary fiber – two substances that are key in weight loss. They work together to boost your metabolism and regulate your digestive system. They are also high energy and nutrient dense while being low calorie.
