Foods That Can Improve Your Heart Health

Keeping your heart healthy is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Your heart is responsible for making your body function, it literally circulates the blood and oxygen in your body to keep your organs alive. Below are some foods you can eat to help guarantee your heart health.

Salmon
Fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and sardines are one of the best things to help your heart and keep it healthy. This is primarily due to the fact that omega-3 fatty acids contained in fish. These fatty acids help to decrease the risk of obtaining arrhythmia also known as an irregular heartbeat, atherosclerosis – the buildup of plaque inside of the arteries, and low the amount of triglycerides in the body. If you eat fatty fish twice a week you will be able to gain these health benefits.

Oatmeal
Oatmeal is high in soluble fiber which is a dietary substance that can help to lower your cholesterol. The fiber functions as a type of sponge in your digestive tract and actually soaks up cholesterol and removes it from your body via your digestive tract. This prevents it from being absorbed into your bloodstream. This is also the case with other whole grains like bread, grits, and pasta.

Blueberries
Blueberries and berries in general – strawberries, blackberries, etc. are full of antioxidants that can significantly affect your heart health. They also contain flavonoids known as anthocyanins which can help to dilate your blood vessels and decrease your blood pressure.

Dark chocolate
Dark chocolate is not only tasty and delicious and a fantastic treat, but it is actually great for your heart health. Studies have found that consuming a little bit of dark chocolate can actually reduce your chances of suffering a non fatal heart attack or stroke. This is because dark chocolate contains flavonoids known as polyphenols which reduce clotting, blood pressure, and inflammation.
