Top 4 Foods to Help You Overcome Insomnia

If you are like millions of people around the world, you will sometimes suffer from sleep deprivation. For some people this is just a once in a while problem that they just have to struggle through at times. But for some other people this can be a truly debilitating problem that leads to long term health issues. In extreme cases, sleep deprivation qualifies to be diagnosed as insomnia, a condition where you absolutely cannot sleep. This can lead to a decrease in brain functionality, awareness, appetite, cause the onset of depression, lower the quality of your immune system, and even result in heart attack or death.

If insomnia is a major problem for you, then you can treat it by adjusting your diet. There are plenty of foods that have components that act as natural sleep aids.

Foods to aid sleep

Bananas:

Bananas have magnesium and potassium which work together to improve your body’s ability to sleep. The potassium helps in retaining water which keeps you hydrated. Good hydration is key to getting a good night’s sleep. And the magnesium is great for adjusting your brain chemistry to help you sleep better.

Chamomile tea:

Drinking chamomile tea is one of the most classic sleep aids out there. It has natural drowsy affect. Just drink a cup an hour or two before bed time and let the pleasant drowsiness wash over you.

Cherry juice:

Cherry juice is a great source of magnesium which is a natural sleep aid. If you are finding it difficult to fall asleep, adjusting your magnesium levels is one of the first things you should try.

Milk:

A glass of warm milk is actually very good to take when you are attempting to fall asleep. Your grandma is right more than you think. Warm milk is naturally soothing and can help destress you. The calcium quantity of milk is also key in producing melatonin, another vital substance needed to help your body regulate sleep.
