Your life will take a turn when you are pregnant. Your favorite foods and drinks that you consumed until now might need to be checked for they might be harmful to the baby’s growth and development. Ensure that you eat a balanced diet with adequate amounts of all nutrients. It is recommended to regularly consult your doctor who will advise the best possible diet and the drinks and beverages that are safe for consumption during pregnancy.
Beverages and drinks to avoid during pregnancy
- You should not drink milk or juice that hasn’t been pasteurized. Pasteurization is a process that kills the microbes and bacteria present in the food. If the milk or juice that you consume is not pasteurized, the bacteria present can cause harm to you and your baby.
- Juice that is made from wheatgrass should be avoided as some microbes and molds could be present in wheatgrass. Wheatgrass is harvested in damp and moist conditions which make a suitable environment for the microbes. As wheatgrass juice is made from wheatgrass and is not pasteurized, the bacteria present could cause harm to you and the baby.
- You should completely abstain from consuming any drinks that contain caffeine during pregnancy. This is because caffeine is a powerful stimulant and could increase the risk of miscarriage.
- Iced tea is very cold and the concentrated tea that is used to make iced tea contains a large amount of caffeine.
- Diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners like saccharine which are very harmful. This can have adverse effects on the growth of the baby so you need to avoid the consumption of diet soda and diet cola.
- Aerated beverages should not be consumed as they have caffeine and also contain a chemical quinine and the combination of caffeine and quinine could prove lethal for pregnant women.
- You should not consume alcohol while you are pregnant. It should be stopped altogether.
