It can be a difficult thing to make your food taste well. A lot of people don’t know where to begin short of dumping a barrage of spices over their dishes. Below are some great hacks that actual chefs use to infuse your food with tastiness while still being healthy:
1. Season your butter to use less of it
Using too much butter can be detrimental to a healthy diet. But not using enough butter can be detrimental to a tasty meal. Chefs get around this by seasoning their butter with herbs and spices. That way they get more flavor and punch for less. Thyme, lemon zest, and garlic are great ingredients for spicing up your plain jane butter. To season butter, simply heat it up in a saucepan until it begins to foam and add your spices. Let it sit for a moment before straining it and refrigerating it.
2. Roast vegetables
Raw veggies can be one of the blander things on your plate. They’re healthy and nutritious, but don’t go a long way in making your food taste great. You can keep the nutritional value of your veggies more or less in tact by lightly roasting them. Just toss your raw veggies with a little bit of oil then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake them in the oven at 400 F for about 30 minutes, and you will have some super tasty veggies.
3. Add salt, instead of sugar, to your coffee or tea
This is one that is probably going to have you shaking your head in disbelief. For the uninitiated, this surely must sound crazy. But salt is actually a magical thing that can sweeten your coffee in a healthy way. Salt has the ability to neutralize bitterness and intensify the natural flavors of your coffee or tea. So, you’ll have an amazing cup of joe without the calories of sugar. Just remember to only use a dash of salt though.
4. Use cauliflower instead of cream
Cauliflower is one of those magical vegetables that can be used as a substitute for many different ingredients. If you steam and puree it, you can transform it into a whip that makes for a fantastic cream substitute. Now you can replace high fat creams like sour cream with a high fiber and nutrient dense cream that clings to herbs and spices well.
