Toddlers and young kids are prone to falling ill frequently. These are hard times for both the parents and the little ones. The latter will often refuse to eat, making matters more complicated and worrisome for parents. While you should consult your doctor about any health issues right away or if you notice anything different from usual, we recommend the following foods for your little one. However, never give anything to your baby before speaking to your medical practitioner first.
Foods for toddlers and babies with cold and cough
- Breastmilk: This is the best food for babies under 6 months of age. Breastmilk is also a great source of antibodies and will boost the immune system function of the baby. Ensure to check for congestion before you begin feeding and remember to consult your doctor right away if your baby is ill.
- Sweet potatoes: These are great sources of powerful nutrients and will boost the toddler’s immunity. They will also facilitate the formation of WBCs (White Blood Cells). Sweet potatoes can be fed to your kid in the form of porridge. You can also make a puree or mash them.
- Carrots: These are known to boost immune system function and will keep viruses and bacteria at bay. You can mash carrots or make a puree and soup for your kid aged over six months.
- Moong Dal Porridge: A wholesome food for kids suffering from cold. The porridge can be a part of either lunch or dinner. This will be suited for kids older than seven months.
- Curd rice: A great delicacy that can be fed to kids aged more than eight months. Curd rice with a little ginger and cumin seeds will be ideal for a kid who is unwell. The curd should not be too cold.
- Idli: Idlis and dosas are great foods when your child (aged more than 8 months) is unwell.
