Migraines can be some of the worst conditions to deal with. Not only are they a massive headache, but they also have a whole host of other symptoms such as, fatigue, light sensitivity, nausea, etc. While you can treat migraines via over the counter medications, you can also treat the migraines via your diet:
- Fruits, veggies, and legumes
Generally speaking, fruits, veggies, and legumes are great for anybody’s diet. They have all kinds of nutrients that the body absolutely cannot do without. But they are also fantastic for treating migraines. All three foods contain plant estrogens that have the ability to dull the effects of the estrogen produced by our bodies. This can be very helpful for women who are prone to getting migraines during their periods which may be caused by a sudden drop in estrogen. The higher a woman’s overall estrogen level, the farther it can fall during the period. The fiber content in these foods removes excess estrogen, so the drop is less drastic. - Fatty fish
Fatty fish is filled to the brim with essential omega-3 fatty acids; it is one of the best sources of omega-3s available. Omega-3 fatty acids contain natural anti-inflammatory properties which can simultaneously reduce the frequency and severity of migraines over the course of a couple months. - Coffee
Coffee is a bit of a controversial food choice when it comes to treating migraines. For some people, caffeine actually induces migraines, but for others it functions as a natural pain reliever. Caffeine is actually a key ingredient in over the counter migraine medications because of its ability to shrink swollen blood vessels inside the brain. - Ginger
Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory that can help to treat migraines via its ability to block prostaglandins, which are inflammatory substances. The wonderful herb also has the ability relieve the nausea that typically accompanies migraines.
