Onions are one of the most impressive vegetables around. They can be extremely tart and almost inedible or sweeter than the sweetest apple. The wonderful little vegetable fits in just about any savory dish and even some not so savory ones, so you can just about always find a reason to eat onions and receive their health benefits.

Onions have quite a few health benefits that make it a must have in everyone’s diet. Regularly eating onions can help treat and prevent chronic ailments such as heart disorders and diabetes. They also have the ability to treat bacterial infections, angina, the common cold, asthma, and other respiratory problems.

As powerful as onions are, and as much as you should want them in your next meal, the real strength of onions is their ability to prevent and treat cancer. The longer people live, the likelier they are to develop some type of cancer, which is why you should make sure to eat onions your entire life.

Onions work to prevent cancer

The anti-cancer properties of onions are due to the fact that onions contain large amounts of quercetin, an extremely powerful antioxidant. Quercetin has been proven to halt and reduce the spread of cancer. Specifically, the antioxidant works to prevent the development of gastrointestinal tract.

Onions are also amazing sources of vitamin C, one of the stronger antioxidants out there. The antioxidant works to kill off free radicals that have accumulated in the body over time. They are they chemical byproducts of cellular metabolism; they have the ability to transform healthy cells into mutated cancerous cells.

Eating onions won’t perfectly eliminate cancer, but it will go a long way to keeping your body healthy and keeping your cells reproducing without mutating. Get with the onion, it’s amazing.
