Childbirth and Postpartum Diet: Include These Nutritious Foods in Your Diet

It is extremely important to watch your diet post childbirth to ensure you eat the right foods with proper nutrition. The right eating habits will help you stay healthy and keep your baby healthy too if you are breastfeeding. What’s more, the right postpartum diet will also help you lose weight post childbirth. It is best to consult your healthcare specialist who’ll be the best judge in your particular case but the following are some very nutritious foods you can include in your diet.

A Balanced Diet

The importance of eating a balanced diet that combines several different types of nutrients cannot be overemphasized. Eat lots of vegetables, fruits, protein foods, grains, and dairy products. It is important to eat foods that have proteins such as cheese, milk, yogurt, and beans. Foods that are rich in protein will help you recover quickly and will keep the body systems up and running. This is particularly important if you were underweight before pregnancy. We also highly recommend eating lots of fresh veggies as they pack in minerals and vitamins while also having fiber that will protect you from constipation.

Stay hydrated

It is especially important to stay hydrated and consume lots of fluids. This is particularly important if you are breastfeeding your child. We recommend drinking lots of milk, water, and fruit juice.

Avoid these foods

Avoid the consumption of junk food post childbirth and during pregnancy. This includes soda, cookies, and French fries too! Replace them with healthy foods. It is also recommended to abstain from drinking alcohol and other intoxicating drinks. Caffeine is also best avoided since it can be passed onto your baby through the breast milk. Caffeine is known as a stimulant and can affect growth. You should also avoid consuming certain fish including swordfish and tilefish since these can have high levels of mercury.
