Mishti Doi

Mishti doi is a Bengali dessert and it is a popular sweet dish in India also. Mishti doi is mainly made with some caramelized sugar and you can find this traditional sweet dish in earthen pots. Even people in Bengal will add this dish in their wedding menu and they prefer to replace the ice cream with some chilled mishti doi. You can easily have it as dessert or you can also eat with some rice. As we know that, this is purely dairy product, so it can provide us good amount of proteins, carbohydrates and vitamins. You can store it in a storage container and eat later, and it will still taste as delicious as freshly prepared.

Ingredients

liter milk: 1

cups sugar: 2

curd or yogurt: 200 gm

How To Make Mishti Doi

  1. Pour milk into a pan and bring to a boil. Add 1 cup sugar to the milk and after few minutes the sugar will be dissolved automatically.
  2. Boil the milk at low flame for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Then you can turn off the stove and pour the boiled milk in a separate bowl.
  4. Now you need to heat the pan again and add remaining 1 cup sugar. Melt the sugar and add little water if needed.
  5. Cook until the sugar is melted and it becomes brown in color. Add the boiled milk and mix well. Boil again for another 5 to 10 minutes at low heat.
  6. Then add some whisked yogurt and stir well. Pour into an earthen pot or glass bowl. Even people in Bengal also use a stone bowl to make the Mishti doi at home.
  7. Keep it in a warm place for 4 to 5 hours until firm.
  8. Once firm, store the fridge and serve it chilled. Garnish the mishti doiwith some cashew nuts.
