Italian Stewed Tomatoes

Italian stewed tomatoes are a common household dish around the globe. Generally, homes where children are not too excited about having vegetables prefer this stew as God send help! It is a mix of tomatoes with several different vegetables that are stewed to almost a fine paste.

It is considered as one of the most affordable dishes in Italy. The main reason for that is the fact that it consists of vegetables that most people grow in their farms.

Ingredients

olive oil: 2-3 tbsp

butter – half a slab

squeezed tomatoes: 15-20

tomato puree: 3 cups

chopped green peppers: 1-1 1/2 cups

chopped white onion: 1-1 1/2 cups

chopped celery: 1-1 1/2 cups

corn starch: 1 tbsp

Sugar: 1/2 tsp

salt to taste

Black Pepper Powder to taste

How To Make Italian Stewed Tomatoes

  1. Take a deep pan.
  2. Heat up some oil into it.
  3. Add butter into the heated up oil and let it melt.
  4. Now add chopped onion, chopped green peppers and the chopped celery into the pan.
  5. Fry it for a couple of minutes until it is slightly golden.
  6. Cover the pan with a lid and let the vegetables cook until they are tender.
  7. Now add one tablespoon of corn starch into the tomato puree.
  8. Mix them well until the puree turns slightly orange.
  9. Add the tomato puree into the pan.
  10. Fry it for a couple of minutes until it blends well with all the vegetables.
  11. Add sugar, salt and black pepper powder to the pan.
  12. Fry it for another minute.
  13. Now you can add the tomatoes in the pan. Adding them near the end keep their flavor from being over cooked.
  14. Fry it until the tomatoes have turned into a fine paste.
  15. Turn off the heat and pour it out into a separate dish.
  16. Serve it while it’s still hot with rice or your favorite bread!
