World Sleep Day – Here’s What You Can Eat to Sleep Better

There is nothing more important than a good night’s sleep to be able to function optimally. Sleep is one of those things that you just can’t get around. Your body can drastically feel when you get just one night of restless sleep. Generally speaking, the average adult wants to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. If you are like a large number of adults, then this is probably something you have been struggling to achieve for some time now but failed to do so.

The best thing that you can do to make sure you are getting the right amount of sleep is to check with a doctor. They will be able to give you a diagnosis telling you what exactly is causing your sleep issues and help you develop strategies for overcoming those issues. Before seeing a doctor, you might want to try making some adjustments to your diet. There are certain foods you can include in your regular diet to make sure that you are getting the right nutrients needed to properly induce sleep.

Best foods to eat to get a good night’s sleep

Almonds

Almonds are already one of the healthiest foods you can snack on. They help you to maintain weight and to get to sleep. This is because they are rich in manganese and magnesium, two minerals which improve sleep.

Turkey

Turkey should be eaten more than just for Thanksgiving. It is one of the pound for pound healthiest meats you can eat. Eating turkey before going to bed can help to promote sleepiness. This is probably due to the amino acid tryptophan, a compound found in turkey that helps to produce melatonin, a sleep inducing hormone.

Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea is a classic sleep aid. It has the antioxidant, apigenin, which reduces insomnia and promotes sleepiness.
