What Can You Eat to Feel Better When You Have a UTI

A condition that isn’t discussed enough in health and wellness circles is the urinary tract infection (UTI). It affects millions of people around the world every year.

What is a UTI?

A urinary tract infection is a type of infection that affects any portion of the urinary tract – this includes the ureters, kidneys, urethra, and bladder. UTIs are typically caused by bacteria originating from the bowels entering the urinary tract. They can also be caused by fungi and viruses entering the urinary tract.

Anyone can experience a UTI, although it occurs more commonly in women than men. Some common UTI symptoms include:

  • A burning sensation whilst peeing
  • Frequent urination
  • Pelvic pain
  • Dark or cloudy urine
  • A feeling that your bladder is not quite empty

Treating Your UTI

Although UTIs are fairly common and easy to obtain, they are also more or less simple to treat. The best way to treat a UTI is to get a diagnosis from a doctor who will prescribe antibiotics. Antibiotics and the immune system are the only ways to treat a UTI, but a person’s diet can improve the effectiveness of a treatment. Keep reading to learn the best foods to eat to assist with the treatment of a UTI.

  • Water
Water is the best non-medicinal treatment for a UTI. Staying hydrated will boost the effectiveness of the immune system. It will also help to flush out the bladder which will reduce the irritation caused by the UTI.
  • Leafy Green Veggies
Leafy green veggies contain lots of necessary vitamins and nutrients that support the immune system and make it easier for the body to fight against UTI causing bacteria.
  • Probiotics
Eating probiotic rich food can also help to soothe the irritation caused by the antibiotics.
