You must consume lots of green vegetables during pregnancy. Including capsicum in the diet will be helpful to maintain your health throughout the 9 months of pregnancy. Here are some benefits of consuming capsicum during pregnancy.

Health benefits of capsicum for pregnant women

  • Pregnant women can eat capsicum as it has numerous health benefits. However, it is important to consume the right quantity and form of the vegetable.
  • Capsicum contains numerous vitamins and minerals that are required by the body. Capsicum is available in different colors and each color has a specific health color attached to it. Red capsicum contains lycopene and helps prevent cancer. Green capsicum has silicon which will help in the healthy growth of hair and nails. Yellow capsicum helps to boost the immune system due to the presence of lutein and zeaxanthin.

Health risks associated with excessive consumption of capsicum

  • Although eating capsicum during pregnancy is very beneficial, however, there are certain conditions where the consumption of capsicum can turn harmful to the mother and the baby.
  • The seeds present in capsicum can trigger allergic reactions due to which there could be rashes on the body or excessive sneezing which will not be safe for the expecting mother.
  • Also, it will affect digestion and result in indigestion or frequent stools.
  • Mothers who are breastfeeding their baby should refrain from eating capsicum as it could affect the quality of breast milk, making it unfit for the baby. Also, it is advisable to stop the consumption of capsicum a couple of weeks before delivery as it could lead to excessive bleeding and thinning of the blood.
  • It is best to consult your doctor who will be the best judge when it comes to the discussion around the consumption of capsicum during pregnancy.
