How Smoothies Can Help You When You Have a Migraine?

Migraines can be some of the biggest inconveniences to your comfort and overall quality of life. For most people, migraines are nothing more than an occasional inconvenience, but there is a sizable group of people that are chronic migraine sufferers. These people can easily find themselves following a regimen of over the counter pain killers. Taking too many pain killers is something that you want to avoid at all costs. It can have all sorts of harmful side effects.

Instead of using painkillers, a better option is to treat your migraines with your diet. There are certain vitamins and minerals that you can ingest to reduce the power of a migraine. One of the easiest ways to incorporate these nutrients into your body is to blend them into a smoothie. In a smoothie, the nutrients are easier to absorb and work well.

Migraine Fighting Nutrients

Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential mineral that performs hundreds of functions in your body. One of those functions is the ability to relive headache and migraine pain. Magnesium rich foods include, leafy green veggies, bananas, avocadoes, raw cacao, and nuts.

B-Complex Vitamins

B complex vitamins also help to reduce the intensity of migraines and headaches. The vitamins are also water soluble so they won’t be stored in the body.

Ginger

Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory, which helps with pain relief. This herb has even been proven to be more effective than sumatriptan, a prescription medication used to treat migraines.

Hydration

Smoothies are of course filled with water. Staying hydrated is possibly the biggest factor in treating a migraine or headache. Dehydration is a migraine trigger, and simply drinking a little bit of water can drastically improve migraine pain.

Just make sure your smoothies include these nutrients and you will be feeling migraine pain relief in no time.
