How Burgers and Pizzas Contribute to Depression

Fast food is delicious, cheap, and extremely convenient. It is also designed to make you want to eat it more. All in all, it is one of the worst things you can eat, but it tastes like some of the best things you can eat. This is especially true when it comes to eating the oh so iconic burger and pizza, the two powerhouses of the fast food world. But eating fast food regularly can actually lead to some major health issues that are not what you want to deal with. Some of the worst ones include, stroke, heart attack, liver disease, and of course, death.

Recent studies have shown that eating fast food may not just cause you physical problems. It can actually lead to some pretty intense mental problems as well. Primarily, eating too many burgers and too much pizza can cause pretty drastic depression. The research actually suggests that fast food has a “dose-response relationship”. This type of relationship means that the faster food you eat, the higher your risk of developing depression. Basically, the faster food you eat, the worst your depression can be.

It is important to note that fast food in this case doesn’t just include burgers and pizza. It includes just about anything fried and processed. This can include lots of your favorite commercial baked goods, such as, croissants, snack cakes, and doughnuts. Although this research presents good evidence for why fast food causes depression, it is still incomplete. It needs more follow up to determine how much fast food consumption actually results in depression or other mental health issues. After all, fast food is comfort food for a reason. Maybe just a certain amount of it won’t make you sad, but will actually make you happy. Maybe the happy meal is real.
