Home remedies to treat food poisoning

We all love eating good food, don’t we? However, many a time, we end up eating harmful bacteria and other agents that can cause food poisoning. When food is handled poorly and in an unhygienic way, it can cause microbes to contaminate it and spread further. Amongst the most common symptoms of food poisoning are abdominal pain and fever. Disease-causing bacteria can contaminate fruits, vegetables, meats, and dairy products. In this article, we will discuss some home remedies that can provide relief from food poisoning. However, do not forget to consult your doctor before starting the treatment yourself. He is the best person to advise you in this regard.

Home remedies to treat food poisoning

  • Ginger has preventive and therapeutic properties. It works wonders in treating vomiting and nausea. You can consume ginger tea with sugar or honey added to it to get relief from the feeling of nausea.
  • Lemon has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral properties. The acid present in lemons kills bacteria which cause food poisoning. To one teaspoon of lemon juice, add a pinch of sugar and drink twice or thrice daily.
  • Garlic has anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial properties. It provides relief from abdominal pain and diarrhea. Eat fresh garlic cloves and swallow with water.
  • Basil: Basil is an excellent herb and provides relief from abdominal discomfort. Basil juice extracted from the basil leaves provides relief from the discomfort that is caused by food poisoning.
  • Apple cider vinegar: It is known to kill the bacteria and soothes the gastrointestinal lining.
  • Cumin seeds: Cumin seeds provide relief from stomach inflammation and abominable discomfort that occurs due to food poisoning. Boil 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds in a cup of water. Add one teaspoon of the juice extracted from fresh coriander leaves, and a pinch of salt. Drink it two times a day. It will help to cleanse the system.
