HDL stands for High-Density Lipoprotein and refers to good cholesterol and the kind of cholesterol that is needed by the body. It is a sort of detox agent for the cholesterol in the body. When the HDL is at a healthy level in the blood, it helps to remove the extra cholesterol that is built up in the arteries and sends it to the liver. The liver finally throws it out from the body.
