Why Date Palm Jaggery Should be a Winter Staple

You may not have heard of date palm jaggery before, which is a shame. Date palm jaggery is one of the best sugar substitutes available. White sugar is refined cane sugar, and generally speaking has zero actual nutrients. They are all lost during the refining process; when you’re eating your sweet tasting confectionary, you’re getting the sweet taste, but little else besides empty calories. Date palm jaggery on the other hand is an extract made from the sap of the palm tree. It is sweet like sugar but contains actual nutrients inside of it. And as an added bonus, jaggery uses no artificial ingredients or chemicals in its processing.

Thanks to its many nutrients and its collections of essential vitamins and minerals, it actually has many medicinal benefits that make it not just a sweetener, but an actual health food. It is especially useful for the winter; eating it might just make the difference between having to suffer through winter sickness and actually enjoying your time inside being cozy.

Jaggery helps the body in many ways:

Restores Healthy Digestion

Winter can bring on all kinds of stomach problems, whether from sickness or bad food. Palm jaggery actually acts as a digestive agent and helps to alleviate stomach pains. It activates digestive enzymes inside your stomach and helps to cleanse your intestinal tracts.

Rich in Nutrients

As already mentioned, palm jaggery has quite a few nutrients in it. These nutrients play a vital role in keeping your body functioning optimally, which is exactly what you need during winter. Some of the more significant minerals found inside jaggery are iron which is essential for blood production and magnesium which helps to regulate the nervous system. It also has antioxidants which kill free radicals that can cause cancer.

Reduces Seasonal Effects on The Body

Palm jaggery is also notable for keeping you warm during winters. Use it to sweeten your coffee and you won’t have to waste so much money on heating, your body will warm itself from the inside out.
