The topic of good food has always been worthy of debate. While early ancestors survived only on meat, once they settled down and took up farming, vegetarian food was introduced. Through trial and error, people learned what food is beneficial and what causes harm. Over the years people are more divided than ever. Sadly, food is one of the reasons that keep people from being united. At first, there were vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Veganism started around 1940s. Vegan food habits are almost similar to a vegetarian, but a vegan does not use dairy products or any animal products.
Every diet has its advantage and disadvantage if not taken properly. It also varies from person to person. Hence, it is better to understand your body before choosing your diet. Here are a couple of advantages and disadvantages of Veganism.
Advantages
One has to remember that Veganism is a choice and doesn’t belong to any particular religious group. It is an initiative to save animals. In a vegan diet, you will mostly eat vegetables, beans, legumes and more. Since the food is mostly low combination cholesterol and high anti-oxidants, weight watchers can reap all the benefits. For people who suffer from chronic diseases, a vegan diet has been proved helpful. Veganism mostly consists of high fiber and also Vitamin C as there’re a lot of fruits in the diet.
Disadvantages
Going completely vegan might not be as good as you think. Normally healthy people when continuing Veganism will eventually start having vitamin A and D deficiency, including B12, omega3, etc. These vitamins are essential for human body as they contain micronutrients and minerals that provide the much-needed immunity to fight diseases. While veganism is propagated as a healthy and moral diet; it doesn’t really benefit in maintaining weight as it claims. People with any bone diseases or diabetes must have balanced nutrition which not found in the vegan diet.
It is indeed good to reduce meat consumption and also avoid fatty food. However, it is not really advisable to cut off dairy from our regular diet which provides iron and vitamin D for maintaining good health.
