A Few Natural Remedies that will Soothe the Symptoms of Chicken Pox

Chicken pox is something that everyone gets at one point in their life, most often childhood. It is relatively harmless but can be truly irritable and a major inconvenience. You can treat your chicken pox symptoms using some natural remedies:

Apply Calamine Lotion
Calamine lotion is your standard chicken pox treatment. It has skin soothing properties which include zinc oxide. Apply the calamine lotion using clean finger, gauze, or cotton swab to the inflamed and itchy areas of the skin.

Eat Sugar Free Popsicles
Believe it or not, chicken pox can actually spread to the inside of your mouth where it can be quite painful. Popsicles serves the function of applying an ice cube to the itchy and inflamed portions of your mouth.

Take an Oatmeal Bath

Oatmeal baths are a long standing remedy for itchy and irritated skin. You can make your own oatmeal bath at home or buy a premade one in the store. There are also oatmeal-based lotions available that can be purchased in most stores.

Take Baking Soda Baths
Baking soda baths are another great way to soothe your irritated skin and keep the itching at bay. You just need to pour a cup of baking soda to a lukewarm, shallow bath. Then soak your skin for 15-20 minutes. If it works well and provides you relief, you could repeat the bath 3 times a day until your symptoms go away.

Apply Chamomile Compresses
You can also treat your chickenpox symptoms using the chamomile tea that you’ve been saving for bedtime. The tea has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce the irritation and swelling caused by chicken pox. To make the compress, simply brew 2-3 chamomile tea bags, then let them cool. Next, dip clean cotton pads or washcloths into the tea and apply it on your irritated skin.

The natural remedies listed above can provide symptomatic relief, however, it is recommended that you consult your physician before you try these remedies on affected areas of your skin.
