6 Natural Foods that Help Increase Platelet Count

Blood platelets are one of the three types of blood cells in our blood; the other two are white blood cells and red blood cells. Each one has a different role to play – the white blood cells fight off disease, the red blood cells carry oxygen, and the platelets are responsible for clotting.

Platelets are the smallest of the blood cells and look like plates. They transform from being smooth to sticky depending on certain conditions. Generally, a larger concentration of stickier platelets results in the blood thickening. If the blood becomes too thick due to sticky platelets this can result in clotting. It is important to maintain a good balance of platelets in your body to make sure that your blood is not too thin which can lead to hemophilia or too thick which can lead to clogged arteries. If your platelet count is off balance or low there are

Papaya

Everything about papaya fruit can work to increase your platelet count. You can simply eat a ripened papaya and passively reap the benefits, or actually make a stronger tonic from the leaves. You can extract oil from the papaya leaves by boiling them and consume it twice a day. Or you can crush the leaves using a mortar and pestle and make a juice from the powder.

Pomegranate

Pomegranates are packed with iron which is a mineral that is actually responsible for producing blood cells. Your body does not produce iron naturally, so you will have to always supplement it with outside sources. Besides having a lot of iron, pomegranate also has antioxidants and vitamin C which can help strengthen your immune system.

Spinach

Spinach is rich in folate, also known as vitamin B9, which is necessary for cellular growth and reproduction. If your body lacks folates it may not be able to produce enough blood platelets.
