Nutmeg Recipe

Nutmeg is one of those magical spices which when added to a delicacy in the right amount and at the right time can really enhance its flavor and texture manifold. Nutmeg is technically a spice that is obtained when the seeds of the Myristica fragrans plant are ground. The spice has a distinctive taste which is often described as warm with a slight sweetness. It is commonly used in either a ground or grated form.

Nutmeg has been a prized spice since medieval times. The whole nutmeg seed can actually stay fresh for years. This is in contrast to the grated or powdered form of nutmeg. It is recommended to keep whole nutmeg seeds in an airtight container.
