medium sized oysters

cup of flour: 1/2

cup of milk: 1/4

tsp of salt: 1/4

tsp of baking powder: 1

beaten egg: 1

cup of cracker crumbs: 1

oil

How To Make Rolled Oyster

  • Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan up to 180 degrees.
  • Sift the ½ cup flour, ¼ tsp salt and 1tsp baking powder in a bowl.
  • Beat 1 egg and ¼ cup of milk in another bowl. Beat till the egg and milk make a smooth batter together.
  • Take the cracker crumbs in a third bowl.
  • Take three oysters together, dip them into the first bowl of flour and try to give a round shape of the ball to them.
  • Then dip the ball-shaped oysters into the second bowl of egg and milk batter.
  • Then roll the oysters into the cracker crumbs and fry the rolled oysters in the pre-heated oil.
  • You would not like to cook the oyster balls very fast because you would like to have them thoroughly cooked.
  • Once the rolled oysters get golden brown texture, remove it from the oil and serve them hot.

Yes, rolled oyster is an authentic Italian snack which was brought to Louisville, Kentucky, America, in the 19th century by an Italian immigrant, called Phillip Mazzoni. It was primarily served for free by the Mazzoni brothers at their saloon with beer and whiskey to their patrons. Later the oyster snack became so popular that they began to add it to their restaurant menu. Today, various recipes of rolled oyster are served by various restaurants in Louisville.
