Italian Lasagna

Italian lasagna is another entry on that long list of Italian dishes that helps make Italian cuisine a global standard. There’s almost no reason to not learn to make your own lasagna, except for maybe you are lactose intolerant. Even then, you might want to take the risk, just to try this wonder one time. Lasagna is easy to make, and can be prepared meaty or vegetarian style; so this dish definitely has versatility.

Ingredients

thick slices bacon – diced: 6

chopped onion: 1

tsp fennel seeds: 1

tsp dried oregano: 1

tsp Italian seasoning: 1 1/2

cans tomato sauce: 2

Italian sausage: 2 lb

package lasagna noodles: 1

pints ricotta cheese – part skin: 2

Eggs: 2

tsp fresh parsley – chopped: 2

tsp dried oregano: 1

cup milk: 1/3

slices provolone cheese: 8

cups mozzarella cheese, shredded: 6

How To Make Italian Lasagna

  1. Brown bacon and onion in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Stir in fennel seed, 1 tsp oregano, Italian seasoning, and tomato sauce.
  3. Cover, and simmer on low for 4 - 6 hours.
  4. Brown sausage links in a large skillet.
  5. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Cut into 1 in pieces.
  7. Mix together ricotta cheese, egg, milk, parsley, and 1 tsp oregano in a medium bowl.
  8. Layer 1 cup of sauce on the bottom of a 9 x 13 in pan.
  9. Layer with 1/3 uncooked lasagna noodles, 1/2 ricotta cheese mixture, 1/2 sausage pieces, 1/3 mozzarella, and 1/2 provolone cheese.
  10. Top with 1/3 sauce.
  11. Repeat layers.
  12. Top with remaining 1/3 noodles.
  13. Spread remaining sauce over the top, and sprinkle with remaining 1/3 mozzarella cheese.
  14. Bake at 175°C for 1 ½ hours.
