Ingredients

cup of tub light cream cheese: 1/4

chopped fresh basil: 1 tbsp

mustard: 1 tsp

teaspoon of freshly grounded black pepper: 1/4

slices of freshly baked whole wheat bread: 8

ounces of low-fat ham: 4

thick slices of a large ripped tomato: 8

cup of shredded reduced-fat sharp cheddar cheese: 1/4

How To Make Ham and Cheese Sandwich

  • Preheat the broiler.
  • Mix cream cheese, chopped basil, mustard and grounded black pepper thoroughly until a thick and smooth paste is formed.
  • Take a baking sheet and place four whole wheat bread slices on it.
  • Now, spread 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mix on each of the bread slice.
  • Top each of the bread pieces with an ounce of ham slices.
  • Sprinkle a tablespoon of cheddar cheese over the half sandwiches and put top bread slice on all four sandwiches.
  • Broil for 2 minutes or until the cheese melts and bread is lightly browned.

Note: you can add more toppings, cheese and meat according to your taste.

Trivia

The sandwich is named after Lord Sandwich, a gambler who didn’t have the time to eat during the plays so he would order his servants to bring him pieces of meat in between the slices of bread.
