They are a staple in every South Asian meal and are eaten with just about anything. From curries and meats to bhaajis and just chutneys, you name it; there is a flatbread to go with it.

Enter the delicious and mouth-watering garlic naan. When it is freshly baked right out of the tandoor, the garlic aroma just hits your senses and prepares your taste buds for the flavorsome adventure it brings. Eat it with any dish of your choice or simply with a little bit of ghee melted on top along with tea.

Ingredients

cup warm water: 1

cup sugar: 1/4

tbsp milk: 4

cups bread flour: 4 1/2

package (0.25 oz) active yeast powder: 1

egg, beaten: 1

tsp salt: 2

tsp garlic (minced): 3-4

cup ghee (or butter): 1/2

How To Make Garlic Naan

  1. In a large bowl, add the yeast along with warm water. Dissolve the yeast and let it stand for 5-10 minutes. The mixture should look frothy.
  2. Add in the salt, sugar, milk and egg and flour to make the dough.
  3. Knead the dough for 10 minutes on a flour dusted surface smooth it out.
  4. Place the dough in a slightly greased bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Leave it as is for an hour until the yeast dough rises and has doubled.
  5. Add in the minced garlic to the dough and knead again until combined properly.
  6. Pinch off the dough and make balls (roughly the size of a golf ball).
  7. Roll out these balls and place them on a tray.
  8. Cover the tray with a towel and let it stand for half an hour.
  9. Preheat the grill or tawa on high heat.
  10. Grease the grill with some ghee.
  11. Roll out a ball of dough into a thin circle and make it big enough to be the size of a naan.
  12. Place on the grill or tawa for 3-4 minutes.
  13. Flip the side until it is done.
  14. Repeat the process until your desired number of garlic naans are made.
  15. Brush with some ghee and serve warm!
