Garlic and Herb Marinade

Have you ever had a beautiful piece of meat kept in your freezer but you were unaware of how you could marinade it?

If so, you are not the only one because many people tend to blank out when it comes to marinating their meat. The reason behind this mainly is that they do not know what marinade would please their activated taste buds.

Luckily, the one marinade that is the best combination of fresh, tangy, and delicious would be the garlic and herb marinade. Not only will this marinade give your food an earthy flavor, but it can be used for grilling as well.

Moreover, this marinade enhances the flavor of soft cheeses, fresh veggies, and tofu.

Health Benefits

Garlic is very nutritious but it does not have many calories. It combats sickness by making the immune system stronger. It also reduces the chances of high blood pressure and cholesterol. Herbs are beneficial in promoting saliva in your mouth because of their heat. They also have enzymes that help break down food in your system.

Ingredients

tablespoons of rice vinegar: 2-3

teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil: 1

cup of mixed fresh herbs, coarsely chopped (thyme, sage, rosemary, oregano, savory, and parsley): 1/2

teaspoon of coarsely chopped garlic: 1

tablespoon of lemon zest: 1

coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

lemon wedges for garnishing

How To Make Garlic and Herb Marinade

  1. In a nonreactive dish, whisk all the ingredients together (properly). Put the meat –of your choice- and rub the marinade on it. Once the marinade is on the meat properly, then you must cover and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours, while you keep turning the meat after a few minutes.
  2. After the time is over, you can take the meat out of the refrigerator and let it come to a cool room temperature before you proceed to cooking. Take the meat out of the marinade and discard it right away. With the help of a paper towel, you will need to remove any excess pieces of the garlic and herbs from the meat. Add salt and pepper according to taste.
  3. Cook the meat as you wish, garnish it with earthy herbs, and serve it with the lemon wedges.

Trivia

  • The basic meaning of marinade is “seasoned liquid that you soak a piece of meat in to enhance its flavors before cooking.”
  • Marinades need to be left on for a specific amount of time because they have acidic elements (like vinegar, limejuice, lemons, or wine) to tenderize the meat.

Just like other foods, marinades can be adjusted according to your preferences.
