Can there ever be such a strange yet mouthwatering combination like Chicken and Waffles? Whoever came up  with this idea must be given an applause for bringing the fried chicken game to a whole new level. Our guess is that somebody woke up one day and wanted to have brunch. He must have thought to himself‘To eat waffles or to fry some chicken? That is the question. Why not have both?’ And that is the day this odd but delicious combo was born.

Whatever the origins might be, this recipe is here to stay and has become a favorite all over America and is  sweeping other countries as well.

Ingredients

large egg: 1

vegetable oil (for shallow frying): 1 cup

hot sauce: 1/4 cup

chicken tenders: 8

all-purpose flour: 3/4 cup

Salt and pepper to taste

cayenne pepper: 1 tsp

poultry seasoning: 2 tsp

unsalted butter: 3 tbsp

chicken broth: 1 1/2 cup

scallions chopped for garnishing: 2

buttermilk waffles: 4

maple syrup to taste

How To Make Chicken and Waffles

  1. Heat the oil in a pan for a minute over medium-high heat.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk in the hot sauce and egg and beat well.
  3. Coat the chicken tenders in the egg mixture.
  4. Cover and coat the chicken tenders with the flour, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning and cayenne pepper.
  5. Set aside 3 tbsp of the flour seasoning in a separate bowl.
  6. Shallow fry the chicken tenders for 5-8 minutes until fully done and crispy. Remove from flame and set aside
  7. Melt the butter in the skillet and add the seasoned flour and simmer for a minute or 2. Remove from flame and pour over the fried chicken.
  8. Garnish the chopped scallions on top of the chicken.
  9. Lightly toast the buttermilk waffles and serve it with the chicken.
  10. Lightly drizzle some maple syrup on the waffles and even on the chicken.

The largest waffle weighs a whopping 110 pounds and was created in the Netherlands on 29 June 2013.
