Apple Jalebi

Who can resist an apple jalebi? They are a favorite of children and adults alike, not just because of the sweet syrup coating, but also for the crunchy apple wafer beneath the coating. They make fantastic snacks or after lunch treats.

Ingredients

apples - peeled and sliced into thin rings: 2

all-purpose flour: 3/4 cups

dry yeast: 1/2 tsp

oil: 1/2 tsp

oil: for frying

Sugar: 1-1/4 cup

water: 1 cup

lemon Juice: 1/4 tsp

cardamom powder: 1/4 tsp

chopped pistachios

How To Make Apple Jalebi

Prepare the Batter

  1. Pour the sugar and yeast inside hot water to dissolve and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Mix the flour and oil together in another bowl.
  3. Pour the yeast and sugar mixture into the flour mixture.Note: Make sure you have a smooth batter with the fine consistency of a pancake. Add water as
    required.
  4. Let the batter sit for 30 minutes in a warm place.

Prepare the Syrup.

  1. Boil the sugar in water.
  2. Add cardamom and lemon juice.
  3. Let it boil for about 8 minutes until the syrup is at a half thread consistency.

Make the Jalebi

  1. Heat oil in the frying pan.
    Note: Make sure the oil is hot enough to sizzle when the batter is dipped into it.
  2. Roll apple slices in the batter one at the time to ensure they are well covered.
  3. Drop the batter covered apple slices into hot oil.
  4. Fry the Jalebi for about 5 minutes to cook in small batches.
  5. Turn the Jalebi occasionally to ensure it turns a golden brown coloring.
  6. Put the already fried Jalebi into hot syrup.
  7. Remove the Jalebi from the syrup after a few seconds, and drain the excess syrup.
  8. Garnish the well-drained Jalebi with sliced pistachios.
  9. Serve the jalebi s right away or pack them for tomorrow’s lunch a Vaya Tyffyn lunch box.
