Working Out? Protein-Rich Drinks and Foods Perfect for Consumption Post Workout

We often think we can eat anything after we have a workout as we have burnt enough calories. However, experts do not agree with this thought of hours. If you are on a battle to fight weight loss, your diet needs to be monitored carefully. You exercise so hard in the gym and eating the wrong foods can ruin all the hard work. Here is everything you need to know about the diet you should be following after your workout.

Foods that you should consume after a workout

You should consume something healthy as soon as your workout is finished. This is because the glycogen in the body has been used during the workout and the body needs to replenish that. You can also have a full meal but ideally, it is best to have a full meal three hours post-exercise.

Post workout, the ideal foods that can be consumed are natural protein shakes, milk, dried fruits, eggs, oats, sandwiches, and yogurt. Protein-rich foods should be consumed to meet the body’s requirement for protein. Carrying a protein shake in an insulated water bottle can come in handy after workouts.

Staying hydrated is key

It is also important to stay hydrated. You need to drink lots of water to make up for the water lost as sweat during the workout. You can carry fruit juice with you with you or can have freshly extracted fruit juice after your workout. This will help to make up for the fluids lost during the workout. You can also have coconut water which is rich in antioxidants as well as potassium and magnesium. It will also help to replenish the electrolyte balance in the body. The sodium content in coconut water is very low in comparison to processed drinks.

It is best to consult your dietician or doctor before following the above generic rules.
