Why are People Going Nutty for Coconuts?

Coconuts are a pretty hot fruit right now. They’re being used for more and more things. The coconut has grown up from being a fun beach cup to being the top tier health food item of the new century. There are so many coconut products on the market right now: coconut oil, coconut meat, coconut water, coconut milk, coconut candy, etc. Why is it so big right now? It’s because it not only tastes great, it also has a major health profile.

Builds Immunity

Coconut has all kinds of ways to help keep your immune system strong and make it stronger. It has good fats, like capric, caprylic, and lauric fatty acids. These acids have antiviral, antiprotozoal, and antibacterial properties which helps to alleviate the burden of your immune system. Coconuts also contain monolaurin, a compound that is a virus’s worst nightmare.

Rich Mineral Source
Coconut is a nutrient dense food that is loaded with minerals that have marvelous benefits for your body’s functionality. Some of the more important minerals include, copper, manganese, selenium, iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc. Your body can do a lot with these materials.

Reduces BP
Raw coconut has a lot of dietary fiber which helps to lower blood pressure and regulate weight gain. Fiber does a lot of things for your digestive system. It is digest very slowly, which helps you stay satiated and stops you from overeating. It also means that the energy from coconuts is absorbed slower, so you get more energy over time.

Better Bowel Movements
The coconut’s high fiber content also helps to keep your bowel movements smooth and regular. Eating coconut is a great way to reduce constipation and bloating for this reason.

The only thing to make sure to consider when eating coconut is that it has a rather high saturated fat content. So while it’s healthy, practice moderation.
