Paying attention to your diet is one of the most important things for type 2 diabetics. The foods a person eats directly effects diabetic attributes such as, blood sugar level, insulin resistance, and cholesterol levels. For most people, snacking is an unavoidable aspect of their daily life which is why it’s important to know which foods are and are not acceptable to snack on.

Best Snack Foods for Diabetics

There are lots of different foods to choose from when picking your snack inventory. A good diabetic snack, generally speaking, should be high in fiber, healthy fats, and protein. They should also be nutrient dense and provide some health benefit for your body.

  • Hard Boiled eggs
    Eggs are some of the best sources of protein available. A single hard-boiled egg has roughly 6 grams of protein
  • Parfait
    A parfait – a dish of yogurt and berries – contains lots of antioxidants which help to reduce inflammation. Inflammation is one of the central causes of chronic diseases and can damage cells, like those found in the pancreas.
  • Almonds
    Almonds are both high in protein and dietary fiber, two compounds needed to regulate blood sugar levels. Eating almonds also helps to improve heart health as an added bonus.
  • Vegetables and Hummus
    Hummus is a creamy dip that is made from chick peas and typically served with vegetables. It is a great way to get the benefits of chickpeas, which are rich in protein and dietary fiber, and vegetables, which have lots of various nutrients. Eating just 1 oz. of humus a day can reduce insulin and blood sugar levels by up to four times.
  • Roasted Chickpeas
    If you don’t like hummus, you can still enjoy roasted chickpeas. They have the same health benefits of hummus.
