Type 2 diabetes: The fruits You Should be Eating!

Diabetes mellitus is commonly known as diabetes. The condition occurs when the pancreas is not able to secrete enough insulin that is required by the body. Obesity is one of the major factors that contribute to insulin resistance in the body when it comes to individuals with type-2 diabetes. there is a lot of confusion among diabetic people as to which fruits to eat and which ones to avoid. Here are some fruits that people with type-2 diabetes can relish. It must be remembered that moderation is the key.

Which fruits to eat

It is advised to eat fresh and seasonal fruits. It is best to consume fruits that have a low glycemic index. Also, avoid eating fruits with your main meals. You can consume fruits in between the meals and as a snack.

Include olives and nuts with fruits. This will help to keep the glycemic load balanced. Further, sprinkling cinnamon on fruits will help to balance the sugar levels in the blood.

Take whole flaxseeds and grind and sprinkle on fresh fruits. This will also help to balance the sugar levels in the blood. Diabetic individuals should not consume fruit juices as there is no fiber in the juice and it will only lead to an increase in the level of blood sugar. Also, fruits should be consumed raw and not cooked.

  • Pomegranate: This fruit is very rich in antioxidants and can be eaten by diabetic people.
  • Apple: Apples also help reduce the risk of type-2 diabetes and hence can be consumed by diabetics.
  • Grapes and blueberries: These fruits are a good choice for diabetics as a phytochemical found in grapes will help to reduce the blood sugar level. Blueberries contain anthocyanin which is known to lower the risk of diabetes.
