Tips to soothe razor bumps and burns

Razor bumps are also called razor burns and are mainly caused by using improper shaving products and tools. They can spoil the look too. The best way to reduce razor bumps is to use a razor that has a single blade with a high-quality pre-shave oil and aftershave lotion. Here are some powerful home remedies that will help you get rid of ingrown hair that are the cause of painful razor bumps. You should always speak with your doctor before you begin trying any of these remedies.

Tips to soothe razor bumps

  • Aloe vera: Aloe vera is a traditional remedy to soothe irritated skin. Squeeze the gel from the leaf and apply directly to the skin. It will provide relief from the razor burn. You can also choose a shaving cream that contains aloe vera.
  • Lemon juice: Lemon juice is acidic in nature and prevents the growth of bacteria in ingrown hair. Apply lemon juice directly to the area. Lemon juice will reduce redness and prevent further infection.
  • Tea tree oil: Pure tea tree oil should be mixed with a little water before it is applied to the skin as it is very strong. It is a natural anti-bacterial agent. Alternatively, you can use a shaving cream that contains tea tree oil.
  • White tea: White tea bags will help to get rid of razor burns. Tea contains tannic acid. Wet the tea bag and press against the affected area. This will reduce the swelling and redness.
  • Hot compress: Soak cotton wool in hot water and press gently on the affected area. The heat will open up the pores of the skin and the trapped hair will come out.
  • Always moisten the face and use shaving cream to shave hair. This will help prevent razor burns.
