Saffron is The King of Spices and You Should Love it

Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world. It is the spice of kings, that once changed the world. It comes from the crocus flower and is used as a coloring and seasoning agent in food. Saffron most likely originated in Ancient Persia where it spread to Europe and Asia. The largest saffron producer in the world today is Morocco. Not only does saffron do wonders for making your food taste delicious, but it also has a myriad of health benefits. It has been treated as a medicinal spice since ancient times, where it was used to treat everything from the cold to memory retention. Some of the health benefits Saffron has to offer are below:

Protects against cancer

Saffron possesses a water soluble carotene known as crocin. It is responsible for saffron’s iconic golden color. Crocin has the ability to trigger apoptosis, also known as programmed cell death, in cancer cells. It is used to treat ovarian carcinoma, leukemia, colon adenocarcinoma, and soft tissue sarcoma. The wonderful spice also has the ability to inhibit malignant cell growth without effecting normal cells.

Promotes learning and memory retention

The crocin in saffron also has the ability to treat mental impairment related to aging. Some countries use saffron to treat Alzheimer’s disease, memory loss, and Parkinson’s disease.

Delayed puberty

Saffron has also been shown to stimulate hormones in underdeveloped girls. You don’t need a lot of it to be effective either. A simple pinch of saffron combined with a tbsp of milk can stimulate hormone production.

Increase vitality

For people with low libido, saffron can help boost their sex drive. It is the spice of kings after all. Simply take a dose of saffron infused milk nightly before going to bed.
