Obesity Can Cause Depression – Try These Magic Foods to Lose Weight

It is hard to say what comes first, depression or obesity. Researchers know that there is a definite correlation between the two. Around 43% of adults who are diagnosed as depressed are also obese. Even without the research it is obvious to most people that your weight affects your mood; this happens on both a chemical level through hormonal imbalances and a social level through things like self-confidence. When attempting to treat depression or weight loss, it is important to realize that due to their close relationship you cannot treat them separately. You have to treat them simultaneously or you won’t be effective at treating either one.

Defining Obesity

Obesity is typically defined as weighing either more than 20% of the ideal body weight or having a body mass index (BMI) that is over 30. Due to the increased in processed foods, and the white color work force, more and more people are qualifying as being obese.

Defining Depression

Depression is typically broken down into two primary components: phycological (cognitive) and physical (somatic). The psychological component affects your mood and the physical component affects your body in areas like appetite and sleep.

One of the best ways to simultaneously treat both conditions is by modifying your diet and maintaining a proper exercise regimen. Some of the best foods to achieve this are listed below.

Kale
Dark leafy greens like kale, spinach, and chard are great for helping you to lose weight because they have very little calories and sugars in them. They also have a lot of vitamins and minerals that can not only boost your immune system but help to balance your hormones.

Nuts
Nuts, especially walnuts are very good at helping you to lose weight and alleviate your mood. They are magnificent sources of protein and fiber which helps to boost your metabolism and gives you long-term energy. The omega-3 fatty acids in nuts also have the ability to alter your mood and your hormonal imbalances.
