Low-Calorie Winter Vegetables You Can Eat for Effective Weight Loss

If you’re trying to lose weight this winter, you’re going to want to look into a low calorie diet. It can be difficult to maintain a low calorie diet if you don’t know what to eat though, there are just too many bad food choices out there. A good choice is to include some winter vegetables in your diet. They can provide some much need satiety while keeping your meal low calorie.

Potatoes

Potatoes have a bit of controversial reputation when they come to weight loss. This is understandable, after all so many fried goodies belong to the potato family. Potato also has a high glycemic index; eating potatoes can definitely raise your blood sugar level. However, potatoes are actually low in calories. 1 medium potato has just around 110 calories.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower is the nutrient dense powerhouse that you need. It reigns supreme whether we’re discussing winter vegetables or cruciferous vegetables. Cauliflower is low in calories – 1 cup has only 29 calories. Cauliflower is also great as a substitute for meat, so you can literally eat it for most meals.

Kale

Kale is the veggie you love to hate. What it lacks in deliciousness it makes up for in amazing health benefits though. Kale is rich in vitamin C, beta carotene, and phytochemicals known as isothiocyanates, that increase the abilities of the body’s detoxifying enzymes. Kale also has virtually no calories, so you can feel free to chow down on a lovely kale salad.

Spaghetti Squash

When we are talking about versatility and amazingness, look no further than spaghetti squash. It is a type of squash that is noted for its fun stringy flesh (it looks like spaghetti). You can prepare it in so many ways – bake it, flake it, sauté it. You can literally serve this veggie covered in marinara sauce and it will make a great spaghetti imitation that has that same spaghetti feel with a ¼ the number of calories.

Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts aren’t for everybody, admittedly. But if you can get beyond their infamous reputation, you will realize that these veggies are sweet, tender, and low in calories.
