Rose hips refer to the round structure under the petals of the rose flower which contains rose seeds. The other names commonly used are rose haw, hip berries, hip fruit, and hop fruit. Rose hips are balls of seeds that are red in color. They are the size of a berry and are excellent sources of vitamin C. Dried rose hips and seeds are used to make numerous medicines which are then used to treat diseases such as gastric inflammation, stomach ailments, and osteoarthritis.

However, is it safe to consume rose hip during pregnancy? Let us examine this question in greater detail.

  • Rose hip also contains potassium, manganese, vitamin B complex, magnesium, selenium, and vitamin E. It can thus be helpful in boosting the body’s immunity.
  • The vitamin C present in rose hip can help to structure the cartilage bones and muscles of the baby. It also has astringent properties.
  • Rose hip can help with chronic diseases of the kidney and the common problem of poor bladder control which pregnant women face especially during the later months of pregnancy.
  • It is also known to potentially help cure constipation.

Risks of consuming rose hip during pregnancy

If you are affected by thalassemia, you should avoid consuming rose hip. If you suffer from kidney stones and have sickle cell disease, you should avoid rose hip.
