Is Dieting Alone Enough for Weight Loss?

Can you lose weight just by maintaining a healthy diet? It is an age old question that health, wellness, and fitness experts have been debating for decades. Most people subscribe to the belief that exercise is the primary tool for weight loss. While it is definitely important to get plenty of exercise when trying to lose weight, the majority of your weight loss will be due to your diet. Your diet is responsible for the majority of weight that you put on and the majority of weight that you lose.

The oversimplified theory of how diet affects your weight loss, is that you will lose weight so long as you burn more calories than you consume. The average person consumes 2,000 calories a day. If you burn 2,100 calories a day, while eating 2,000 calories, you will begin to lose weight. But as previously stated, this is an oversimplification.

Not all calories are made equally. Some calories have no nutritional value at all, which will make them completely worthless, no matter how much or how little you consume. If you are trying to lose weight, you want to focus on the type of calories you’re eating; specifically, you want to pay attention to the carbohydrates you are consuming.

Carbs are broken down into glucose, and excess glucose is stored in the cells as fat. If you want to decrease the amount of fat your body is storing, you need to eat carbs that have a high dietary fiber content. The dietary fiber cannot be processed and is eventually pushed out of your body. Consuming dietary fiber also helps to keep you satiated which reduces your overall appetite and makes it so that you consume less.

Eating like this, is a sure fire way to lose weight, without having to exercise.
