How to Manage Psoriasis the Natural Way

Psoriasis could be difficult to manage if not treated right, and winter is the season that can trigger psoriasis. Indoor heating systems and the drying effect of the cold temperature can increase psoriasis. However, if you can combat these effects, you can prevent psoriasis during the winter months.

Natural ways to manage psoriasis

Here are some powerful natural ways to manage the symptoms of psoriasis. Remember, however, to consult your doctor before you try them first!

  • Always keep your skin moist. Dry skin is prone to developing psoriasis. Always use a moisturizing soap and apply a moisturizer after you take your shower. To prevent allergic reactions, use fragrance-free products.
  • Avoid long showers. Hot water will remove the moisture from the skin. You can add finely ground oatmeal or dead sea salts in warm water and take a bath. This will prevent itching and will help to keep the skin moist. Do not forget to apply a moisturizing lotion after you take your bath.
  • Drink plenty of water: Always keep your body hydrated and drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. This will help to retain moisture in the skin.
  • Eat healthy: Your diet plays an important role in managing psoriasis. Do not consume refined sugars, alcohol, carbohydrates, saturated fats, and red meat. These can trigger psoriasis.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids are known to reduce inflammation which will help in the management of the symptoms of psoriasis.
  • The application of olive oil is also known to provide relief from the symptoms of psoriasis.
  • Turmeric: Add turmeric to your foods. This will help to minimize the symptoms of psoriasis. Turmeric can also be taken as a supplement or in a pill form but it is best to take it in the natural form.
  • Avoid fragrances: The products that smell great can increase the symptoms of psoriasis. Soaps and perfumes that smell great contain chemicals and dyes that will irritate the skin.
